How To Reset Your Windows Password

Millions of PCs all around the planet are controlled by Microsoft Windows, which is still the most popular operating system.
Thanks to the high acceptance of the operating system, it has gained so much attention from hackers across the world. If somebody knows how it’s possible to get access to a personal machine, there’s a high threat for info security.
So for security reasons we password protect our PCs. With so many passwords we need to remember nowadays, it has occurred one or more times to many of us – we install a new Windows, or add a new user, or merely get distracted with other stuff.
And then when we would like to log on we all of a sudden notice that we do not remember our Windows or BIOS password any more. When you run into an issue with forgetting Windows password on a user on your PC there are various things you can do to reset your Windows password.
How do we handle this sort of situations?
If you forget all about it, you can recover it by deleting SAM files. Well, the password of Windows XP is put in the SAM file of Windows / System32 / Config. SAM file is the account password database file.
Another option is resetting the password by accessing the PC in safe mode. Most computers running Windows XP do not have a password set for the hidden administrator account that is accessible only in safe mode. You can access safe mode by pressing the F8 key when you see the BIOS screen during the boot process.
Once you are in the safe mode Windows will give you various options. Choose “SAFE MODE” and press ENTER. Log onto the account called “administrator” and open the control panel.
Now go to the user account applet and click onto the user account you have forgotten the password for. Choose “remove password” and you are done. The account can now be accessed without entering a password. Reboot your computer.
Another great way to reset Windows password is by using a third party software that will help you to reset Windows password in some easy steps.
My personal fave is “Password Resetter”. The software discovers the registry key that contains your passwords and gives you the choice to take away the password from any user account.
